OPEN 2020 Webinar – Open Collective

May 7, 2020 By Oliver Sylvester-Bradley

When: Thursday, 7 May
4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Add to: iCal - gCal

Join us  for the third intro webinar of OPEN 2020 with Xavier Damman, to learn about Open Collective –  which lets groups manage their finances so everyone can see where money comes from and where it goes, without requiring the group to be an incorporated entity.

Open Collective’s mission is to:

Help organize the world in open circles, where everyone can contribute.

They are starting with financial contributions, enabling communities to raise money while staying true to who they are.

Circumventing the need to incorporate, and enabling groups to receive and disburse funds is an important step to liberating working groups, which cuts through ‘red tape’ and avoids stifling innovation.

Open Collective have recently helped The Social Change Agency  onboard dozens of mutual aid groups across the UK to deal with COVID-19 and Xavier will use this example to explain how Open Collective can support groups.

This event will be run on Zoom at 4pm (UK time – BST) on the 7th of May.
The event is free and open to all but PLEASE REGISTER HERE to participate.

Please make sure you have downloaded the Zoom app and are familiar with the controls before the event.

We use Zoom and Google docs for collaboration. We know there are open source alternatives available – we’ve chosen to use these tools until open source options have the same level of uptake and usability – in order to be as inclusive as possible. Hopefully, during OPEN 2020 we will collectively agree on a more suitable, open source, set of tools to use.
