Paul Mason joins the OPEN 2019 Gathering

June 18, 2019 By Oliver Sylvester-Bradley Leave a Comment

The Open Co-op is proud to announce Paul Mason will be attending at OPEN 2019.

Paul wrote the important and extremely timely book ‘PostCapitalism’ in 2015 and has recently published ‘Clear Bright Future: A radical defence of the human being’. He is a journalist, writer, documentary film‑maker, and international speaker about the impact of networks and automation on politics and society.

At the OPEN 2019 Community Gathering Paul will be addressing a specific question about the role of the State, and in particular our failing UK Government, in the transition to a collaborative, regenerative economy.

Book your tickets, buckle up and join us for the ride as we journey with Paul to explore:

Beyond Carbon and Capitalism – the Role of the State?

What can the state do to promote the transition beyond the market? How does that map onto the urgent task of moving to zero net carbon? Paul Mason argues that the state needs to use a mixture of regulation, industrial strategy, new company law and taxpayer funding to nurture non-capitalist business models, while entrenching a new set of data rights for the citizen at both city and national level.

The OPEN 2019 Community Gathering will feature a host of inspiring lightening talks about practical, community level solutions for the post-capitalist economy including: Distributed Cooperative Organisations, collaborative open source software, Citizens Action Networks, Mutual Credit and more…

After the lightning talks on each day the attendees will define the agenda in a truly collaborative, democratic way as we use dotmocracy to define the open space sessions and tackle the question: How can we support each other to take more effective action to catalyse the collaborative, regenerative economy?

Places are limited so if you would like to be involved please book your ticket now. There will also be a free BBQ for all attendees the evening of the 26th June before the event starts on the 27th.

You can see a list of Paul’s books on his website and follow him on Twitter.
