Open Food Co-op Project Page

An Open Food Co-op is…

a partnership of people who like locally-sourced, high quality food:
  • It builds on what is there now: existing producer’s co-ops, farms and farmers’ markets, processors (bakers, cheesemakers, etc), distributors, shops, box schemes, regional support groups
  • It adds new local food clubs
  • It adds food-related social events
  • And links them all with an innovative communication & information management system

Hi

I am Raj , from India . While pursuing visions similar to that of Open coop, I have landed here.

I have gone thru the web site and activities . Here are some of my comments over the Open Food Groups activities .

Open Food Groups is nice thought and I too am thinking about it. The comments from Richard bring us down to stark reality . It is apparent that current shops have evolved over period of time have enough checks and balances to counter such daily challenges.

So if the idea of Food Co-op is to support rather than compete with local shops, then why not use it and leave this whole job to them ? They know it the best. I guess we need to generate enough commercial motivation for them to , perhaps alter a bit of their business model .
Then all we need to do is to create a reasonable size of demand ( in this case for organic food) which can then be serviced by commercially .

Thanks to the ICT it is now possible to aggregate such demands .

So our job than is to expand and have enough like minded users !

Surely this is a huge job and more easily said . However we need to collaboratively apply our self to chip this challenge away.

Best regards

Raj
