Open Food Co-op Partners

This list is tentative at this formative stage of the Open Food Co-op. The list includes organisations with whom discussions have been held, but where there is not yet a definite commitment, as described.

The Open University

Contributing the time of Dr. Gary Alexander, Senior Lecturer in ICT, Technology Faculty, the Project Leader for the Open Food Co-op. The Open University has also supplied a server and some technical support for that server and some funding for early development of the Open Co-op website.

Out of this World organic supermarkets

Dr. Jon Walker, Managing Director of Out of this World is a principal partner of the Open Food Co-op and a member of its steering committee.

Hull University Business School

Dr. Angela Espinosa of HUBS is a principal partner of the Open Food Co-op and is a member of its steering committee. HUBS is also likely to be providing support for development of a logistics package for the Open Food Co-op.

Sustainable Society Directory

Francesca Giordano, principal organiser of the Sustainable Society Directory (and also of the Earth Emergency campaign and other events), together with James McGuigan, who provides the principal technical support for Sustainable Society Directory, will co-ordinate the Open Food Co-op in London.

Diss and District Development Partnership

A principal sponsor of the Open Food Co-op, DDDP will be co-ordinating an open food co-op in the area around Diss in Norfolk.

The Waveney Valley Food Group

A sponsor of the Open Food Co-op in the Waveney Valley area on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.

The Waveney Valley Convivium

A new chapter of the Slow Food movement. Along with DDDP, it will take principal operational responsibility for the formation of an Open Food Co-op in the Waveney Valley area.

South Norfolk District Council

SNDC will be promoting the formation of the Open Food Co-op in the South Norfolk area. Mark Bishop, Senior Community Development Officer, will be on the Steering Committee.

Diss Town Council

The mayor, Tony Palmer, has expressed enthusiasm for the project, as Diss Town Council are applying for Cittaslow status.

East Anglia Food Link

EAFL are supporting the formation of an Open Food Co-op in their area. Nick Saltmarsh of EAFL will be on the steering committee.

Eostre Organics

Preliminary discussions have been held with Josiah Meldrum of Eostre Organics, a producers co-operative serving East Anglia, with potential agreement for their participation in the Open Food Co-op as a supplier.

Tastes of Anglia

Preliminary discussions have been held with Colin Clarke, Chief Executive, and Julie West, Deputy Chief Executive of Tastes of Anglia, a distributor of local foods, with potential agreement for their participation in the Open Food Co-op as a supplier.

The Soil Association

Preliminary discussion have been held with Patrick Holden, Director of the Soil Association, who has indicated support for the Open Food Co-op concept and a willingness to participate. Bill Starling of the Soil Association, is on the Committee of the Waveney Valley Food Group and will participate.

New Economics Foundation

Preliminary discussions have been held with Stewart Wallis, Director of NEF and with Pat Conaty of NEF regarding the Open Food Co-op and it is likely that they will be partners.
